Step‑by‑Step Submission Instructions:
Safe Collection of Asbestos and Lead Samples:
- Wear appropriate PPE
- Half-facepiece fit-tested respirator with P100 filters
- Tyvek coveralls
- Laceless rubber boots or integrated boot covers
- Nitrile gloves
- Install drop-sheet below sampling area to capture dust and debris
- Wet potential hazardous material prior to disturbance
- Collect sample(s) in accordance with guidelines per material
- Cover, repair, or enclose sampled location as required to prevent contamination.
- Decontaminate sampling tools
- Personal decontamination (warm, soapy water with disposal rags/towels)
- Follow applicable regulations and safe work procedures. Refer to the sampling guidelines below and relevant WorkSafe BC publications:
Package the Samples:
- Use clean, sealed containers or bags. Use individual bags for each sample and enclose your samples inside an outer bag.
- Label each sample bag with Project Name/Number, Sample ID, Location, and Date.
- Label the outer bag with Project Information (Address/Project Name/Project Number), Analysis Type(s), Collection Date, and Number of Samples.
Complete Chain of Custody (CoC):
- Use our Online CoC (preferred) or the printable PDF form.
- Select the laboratory location, Nelson Lab or Burnaby Lab, to which the samples will be sent for analysis.
- Fill out the Client Information section at the top of the page. This section pertains to your contact information and not the site related information.
- Choose the Type of Analysis and desired Turnaround Time using the appropriate checkboxes/fields.
- Fill out the Sample and Job Site Information. This information relates to the samples collected at the job site.
- Fill out the Sample #, Sample Location, Material Type or Air Sample Type sections in the table. For air sampling related types of analysis only, note the Time (min) and Flow Rate (L/min) information using the two columns on the right side of the table. Use the Continuation Page if needed.
- Sign the form beside Client’s Signature and note the Date/Time Submitted.

Payment Authorization:
- Our staff will contact you about payment authorization upon receipt of samples and completed Chain of Custody (CoC) form
Ship or Drop Off:
- Express Drop‑Off is available at our Burnaby location during business hours (Monday to Friday, 8 am to 4 pm).
- For shipping, we recommend a trackable courier service. Pack containers carefully to avoid damage.
Receive Confirmation:
We will contact you upon receipt and will provide you with an estimated report time.
Get Results:
Reports delivered via email. We will call if clarification is needed.
